Liam Rosenior makes honest admission after funny Arsenal vs Chelsea incident - 'You've got to'

Plenty of people have been laughing at Liam Rosenior since he was appointed at Stamford Bridge and the Chelsea head coach is laughing along too

Liam Rosenior is laughing at himself at Chelsea, with the head coach fully aware of people from the outside mocking him in his first month at Stamford Bridge.

A few things Rosenior has said in press conferences have tickled people and even drawn comparisons between the Blues head coach and David Brent from The Office.

In an interview Rosenior did back in 2024, when he was the manager of Hull City, he explained how he organised a Lego-building competition for the players to help create a dynamic within the group. That, too, has been mocked during Rosenior's short time at Chelsea.

His comment about being a manager, also: "In English, 'manage', if you split the two words, it's 'man' and 'age', so you're 'ageing men'."

Rosenior was also mocked for an attempt at controlling the ball on the touchline during Tuesday evening's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

All of the above has left Rosenior as a bit of a laughing stock in recent weeks, and while the 41-year-old is fine with that, he is serious about leading Chelsea to success.

"The lads have played it [the video of his poor touch] back to me on the video and we've had a laugh about it," said Rosenior. "Estevao [Willian] said he can't believe that I was a professional footballer.

"You've got to [laugh at yourself]. This is a great job, I love this job. I am serious in many aspects and demanding in many aspects.

"Life is too short. You have to enjoy life. You have to be able to laugh at yourself. At the moment, a lot of people in this country have been laughing at me."

Mamadou Sarr was recalled from his loan spell at sister club Strasbourg on transfer deadline day earlier this week to bolster Rosenior's defensive options.

Rosenior, who worked with Sarr at Strasbourg, has spotted a growth in the Senegal international's game but has warned the defender he will have to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

"I see a growth in Mamadou," explained Rosenior. "I see a growth even in his performance in the AFCON final.

"I see a growth in his physicality, I see a growth in his tactical understanding. Also that [centre-back] was an area of the pitch I felt we could strengthen in our own way. They were all the things that I took into account.

"He will get his opportunity but he knows he has to fight for it because we've got many outstanding centre-backs in our group."

Sarr is set to be in the Chelsea squad for their trip to Molineux this afternoon where the Blues take on rock-bottom Wolves in the Premier League.
