Enzo Fernandez cast doubt over his future following Chelsea's defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night
Liam Rosenior has provided an update on Enzo Fernandez's future at Chelsea. The 25-year-old midfielder raised eyebrows following the Blues' humiliating defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night when he refused to guarantee that he'll still be at Stamford Bridge next season.
In an interview with ESPN, Fernandez, who Chelsea signed from Benfica for £106million in February 2023, said: "I don't know. My focus is here for now. We have eight Premier League matches to play and the FA Cup. Then, the World Cup is coming up, so we'll see after that."
Taking a subtle dig at Rosenior, the Argentina international said: "I think we failed to control the game. In the first leg, we lost focus in the final 15 minutes and conceded three goals, and here it happened at the very start.
"At this level, you can't concede two goals so quickly because of small details. Ultimately, over the two legs, PSG were the better side and deserve to go through."

Fernandez added: "Since I arrived at Chelsea we have already passed through similar situations and we were able to turn them around. Now, our focus must be on winning the FA Cup and achieving our goal of qualifying for next season's Champions League."
After the game on Tuesday night, Rosenior claimed he hadn't seen the interview. Speaking to reporters at Cobham training ground on Thursday afternoon, the Chelsea boss finally had the chance to clear the air.
Rosenior said: "Yeah, I think I had a great conversation with Enzo at length this morning before training, not just about his comments, just how he was feeling, how, as a team, we can improve.
"He's one of the captains of the club. What I would say is that he made it really, really clear to me how happy he is here at this club, how much he wants to win, how passionate he is for us to be successful.
"And he also said that in translation and in emotion, things get misconstrued in what he said. So for me, he's fully committed to this group, he's fully committed to winning here at this football club."
Rosenior will hope Fernandez can lead his side back to winning ways when Chelsea face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday evening. The Blues have lost each of their last three games and they're without a victory in nearly two weeks.
"When you lose games, there's always damage attached to it," said the former Strasbourg boss. "I'm learning about the team, the players and the staff. I've learned a lot this week."
Rosenior added: "Every manager goes through difficult weeks. I've had challenging periods before. I've lost games in many jobs, like all managers have done. We need to find a way to fight at Everton and come through a difficult period."
On a difficult couple of weeks, Rosenior said: "I think most clubs, most teams go through this moment in a season. What I've seen, not just today, yesterday, after the game, during the game where we were down to 10 men in the last minutes was not a lack of effort.
"We have eight huge games plus a cup competition we want to win so we can still impact things in a positive way."
