Liam Rosenior's Chelsea side have lost their last four matches in all competitions with some supporters already turning against the Blues head coach
Alan Shearer believes Liam Rosenior needs to qualify for Champions League football this season if he wishes to continue as Chelsea head coach.
While Rosenior retains the full backing of the Blues board at the time of writing, there have been a lot of supporters calling for the head coach, who was appointed as Enzo Maresca's successor not even three months ago, to be sacked.
Rosenior has been in charge of Chelsea for 19 matches in all competitions, winning 10, losing seven and drawing two. The Blues are locked in battle for a Champions League spot this season, with a top-five finish likely being enough to qualify for Europe's elite competition. Shearer believes that is a necessity for Rosenior.

Speaking to Betfair, the former England striker said: "I think for Rosenior to still be in charge of Chelsea next season all depends on if they get into the top four or top five. I think it's pretty simple.
"I think he was appointed for a reason. After what happened last season and in the summer with them winning the Club World Cup, I think it's clear that their objectives are to secure Champions League football and if that doesn't happen, then very much like Liverpool, you would fear the worst for Rosenior.
"Stuff like that huddle last week does not help him. It was pretty embarrassing for everyone. I guess, for the referee, he probably couldn't do anything about it.
"It was really embarrassing for Chelsea's players and then Rosenior's comments afterwards where he said they wanted to respect the ball. Yeah, it was all baffling and nonsense."
There are so many reasons Chelsea are desperate to be in the Champions League again next season - one of them is that it makes recruitment in the summer transfer window easier. Rosenior said this last week: "You want to be in the Champions League. It makes your recruitment, it makes your planning, it makes everything clearer.
"Not just from a financial point of view, but this club deserves to be in the Champions League - it's as simple as that. That's the aim and that's the target.
"That's what we need to really focus on now after coming out of that competition. The rest of it is just about making sure that we win the next game and that we still stay on track for what we want to achieve."
Chelsea do not play again until April 4, where they host League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-final. The Blues' next Premier League clash is eight days after that, with Manchester City the visitors to Stamford Bridge in a seismic match for Rosenior's men.
