Liverpool and Arsenal handed Premier League points tally prediction in title race update

2 hours ago 27

Liverpool's Premier League title challenge has taken a hit, with Arsenal predicted to clinch the trophy by a narrow two-point margin following the Reds' recent stumble. The champions' title ambitions took a hit after a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Arsenal now sits proudly atop the league table following a 2-0 victory over West Ham United, heading into the October international break. Liverpool trails closely behind with 15 points, having suffered its second consecutive league loss.

There will be a fortnight's pause before Liverpool return to action, with a showdown against Manchester United slated for Sunday, 19th October. Arne Slot's side could find themselves four points adrift of the leaders when they step onto the Anfield pitch, as Arsenal is set to visit Fulham a day earlier.

In the wake of a disappointing weekend for Liverpool, Opta Analyst has attempted to project the final Premier League standings. The data-driven website predicts that Arsenal will secure the title this season, edging out Arne Slot's side.

The forecast places the Gunners at the top of the table with 77 points (77.04), ahead of Liverpool who are projected to finish second with 75 points (74.99). Manchester City are next in line in the predicted table, with a final tally of 68 points (67.6).

In a surprising turn of events, Crystal Palace is being tipped to secure fourth place with 63 points (63.17) following its impressive start to the season. Oliver Glasner's squad currently sits seventh, just four points off the lead.

Chelsea is hot on the heels of the top four, sitting in fifth place with 61 points. This could potentially secure it a spot in the Champions League, thanks to the English coefficient in UEFA's rankings.

Arsenal are currently the favourites to win the Premier League title, according to prediction models, with a 44.23% chance of victory. Liverpool, on the other hand, have a lower probability of winning at 32.17%.

Liverpool have had a tough run recently, suffering three losses across all competitions, including a Champions League defeat against Galatasaray and a loss to Crystal Palace last weekend.

The Reds will be eager to bounce back after the break and a disappointing week. Recent results have led to harsh criticism of manager Slot, and the road ahead doesn't look any easier for him.

Following a challenging match at home against Manchester United, Liverpool face three more games at Anfield against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Real Madrid. However, these matches come after difficult away games against Frankfurt and Brentford.

As for Arsenal, they have away games against Sunderland and Burnley following their match at Craven Cottage.

They then have a run of three consecutive home games against Atletico Madrid, Crystal Palace and Brighton.
