Young Liverpool defender Luke Chambers has signed for second-tier Charlton Athletic on loan for the rest of the season after recovering from injury.
Chambers will join the Championship outfit immediately. He has been out on loan three times before — at Kilmarnock and Wigan Athletic twice — and is a highly-rated defender who can play left-back and center-back.
Charlton plays Millwall on Saturday and is currently 18th in the standings, four points above the relegation zone. It is managed by the former Luton Town and Southampton boss Nathan Jones.
Last season, Chambers impressed on loan at Wigan in League One, where he became a fan favorite, but his season was cut short due to an injury setback.
Now having overcome that issue, the 21-year-old is ready for the next step. This is the first time that he will have played at Championship level.
"I'm over the moon," Chambers said. "I know how passionate the fans are about the club and having played against Charlton last season, I know how good The Valley is, so I can’t wait to get going.
"We’ve obviously got a big game on Saturday, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and showing them what I’ve got."
"It’s no secret that we’ve been working hard to bring in a player that can come in and contribute on our left side, including at left wing-back, so I’m delighted that Luke has joined us," manager Jones added.
"He’s a talented, young, hungry player of real pedigree, having come through the Liverpool youth system and represented their first team, so I’m looking forward to working with him."
"Strengthening our options on the left side of our defense and at wing-back has been a key priority during this transfer window," managing director James Rodwell said.

"We’re delighted to welcome Luke, a player we’ve been monitoring for some time.
"He is technically excellent, athletic and a progressive passer. In addition, we would like to thank Liverpool for their cooperation in allowing Luke to join us. We’re looking forward to seeing him in a Charlton shirt."
The Preston-born defender joined Liverpool's academy at the age of six. He can be expected to go on to have a good career in the game, with this move a potential springboard.
