Liverpool confirms latest transfer exit as Kostas Tsimikas joins European giant

Liverpool has confirmed the loan departure of Kostas Tsimikas, with the Greek left-back having joined AS Roma on a season-long loan deal.

The Reds had initially favored a sale for the 29-year-old, but he will head to Italy on a temporary basis instead. Tsimikas has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield this season after the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Earlier this summer, there was interest from Atletico Madrid in Andy Robertson. But Slot confirmed before the win over Arsenal that the Scotland ace was being named his vice-captain, with the player having decided a few weeks ago that he was to stay.

Tsimikas has made 115 appearances for Liverpool in total to date. He arrived from Olympiacos in the summer of 2020 for a fee of around $15 million (£11 million) and is under contract until 2027.

The 29-year-old's arrival was a crucial addition for Liverpool to add depth at full-back. But with Kerkez having come in and Robertson sticking around the right decision for experience within the Reds' ranks, a move away for Tsimikas adds up.

After watching his team beat Arsenal in the Premier League, Arne Slot offered an update on transfers ahead of deadline day arriving tomorrow.

"[I expect to be] quite busy because I have to take a flight at two o'clock!" he said live on Sky Sports. "On a serious note, let's wait and see.

"I haven't spoken to [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] yet. I don't think it's a surprise we are trying to see if we can strengthen the squad but if that isn't possible we are more than happy to do that with this team."

Ibrahima Konate was taken off in the second half amid interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. But Slot said that would not impact his plans in the market.

"It's not a way of asking it," he said. "I could only not take one player into the game so I had to leave one out and that was a center-back.

"I think we were quite well in terms of center-backs. I think it was only cramp so I don't think it was an injury. We have to find out in the upcoming games."

Liverpool is not back in action until it travels to Burnley in two weeks. Before that, the players will jet off for international duty.

Liverpool.com says: Tsimikas deserves the chance to play as regularly as he can next season and moving to Serie A will offer him a new challenge in a nice city. The opportunity was too good to turn down with his standing at Liverpool clear.
