Liverpool 'contacted' for another player exit as Luis Diaz closes in on Bayern Munich transfer

2 weeks ago 61

It will be just a matter of time now before Luis Diaz is confirmed as a Bayern Munich player, becoming the latest to leave Liverpool this summer - and he almost certainly won’t be the last.

The winger is undergoing a medical in Germany on Tuesday, having left the Reds’ tour of Asia on Monday after traveling to Hong Kong and Japan.

He will become the fifth permanent departure from Liverpool this summer, following on from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Nat Phillips, and according to the latest reports, talks have already begun for what could be the next player to exit.

The Times reports that Lyon has made contact with Liverpool about Tyler Morton. The midfielder looks likely to be one of the players making way this summer as the Reds look to recoup some money amid what has already been an expensive window.

The French club is just one of a host of sides said to be interested in Morton, with West Ham also in the mix.

The 22-year-old was also linked with a move to Germany last year, with both Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig having made attempts to sign him on loan.

Interest also came from Feyenoord, Sevilla, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Atalanta, while Championship side Middlesbrough attempted to sign him for around $13 million.

Morton, though, has been valued at around $27M by Liverpool, and with Arne Slot’s midfield options having grown with the addition of Florian Wirtz this summer, the academy graduate’s chances of game time at Anfield next season are looking slim.

Morton is currently with the Reds out in Japan, where they will play the final game of their tour of Asia tomorrow against Yokohama F. Marinos.

The midfielder admitted as far back as January that he would have to be “selfish” about his future as he talked up the possibility of leaving Liverpool.

“It’s decision time and I think I’m ready to kick on and be a proper professional,” Morton said. “Definitely I’m ready to kick on now and move up a step.

“If that’s here, if that’s somewhere else, I think football’s football and I’ve got to be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”

Liverpool.com says: It certainly feels like the right time for Morton to move on now. He simply isn’t going to get regular playing time at Liverpool, and it’s only fair to him that he gets the chance to go out and find more opportunities elsewhere.
