Liverpool looks set to miss out on a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo after it emerged last week that Manchester City was his preferred destination.

The winger has been among the best players in the Premier League this season, registering nine goals and three assists for a struggling Bournemouth side. A £65 million ($88 million) buy-out clause in his Bournemouth contract will be active for 10 days from January 1, and all the signs suggest that City will trigger that option.

That would leave Liverpool looking elsewhere for a new attacker – should the Reds decide that they need one next month – but mid-season deals are never the easiest to pull off, so they will probably need to be be realistic and accept that a deal to sign a player of Semenyo's caliber won't be possible. Here are some other options...

Serge Gnabry

Gnabry is now 30 years old, and he continues to figure for Bayern regularly, although he is no longer a guaranteed starter in every game.

What could make him an appealing prospect is his contract situation – he will become a free agent at the end of the season, so perhaps Bayern would entertain selling him for a cut-price fee in January.

Liverpool doesn't usually sign players who are as old as Gnabry, but on a short-term deal for a modest fee, he could be one of the better options out there.

Yankuba Minteh

This is unrealistic, considering the fee that would be required to get Minteh out of Brighton, but the Gambia international is an exciting young player whose ceiling is extremely high.

His stats aren't mind-blowing, with just four direct goal contributions in the Premier League so far this season, but Minteh only turned 21 earlier this year, and he is only going to get better.

Minteh is a left-footed right-winger – and Liverpool has had plenty of success with one of those over the past decade – but realistically, he is unlikely to be a viable target outside of the summer windows.

Kevin Schade

Kevin Schade doesn't get talked about too much in relation to a possible transfer to a big club, but his stats for Brentford over the last couple of years make for impressive reading.

Schade has scored 17 Premier League goals since the beginning of last season, but his goals tend to come in chunks, which is why he is not always at the forefront of transfer conversations.

Almost half of those goals came in just three games, with the Germany international scoring a hat-trick against Bournemouth last week after also registering one against Leicester last term, as well as a brace against Manchester United.

A versatile option across the front line, he could be a player for Liverpool to consider, but the Reds may decide that they already have enough inconsistent wingers.
