Federico Chiesa has revealed that there was a deafening silence in the Liverpool dressing room following their defeat at Brentford, which extended their Premier League losing streak to four matches.
The Reds were bested in west London, with Brentford deserving their 3-2 victory. The hosts took an early 2-0 lead, which Liverpool managed to reduce before Brentford reasserted their two-goal advantage.
Despite Mo Salah's late goal, it wasn't enough to halt Liverpool's poor run of form. Chiesa suggested that the silence was due to the players' awareness of the worsening situation, but no one felt the need to vocalize it.
Instead, each player reflected on their individual roles as Liverpool continued to slide down the table. Liverpool's losing streak began with a defeat at Crystal Palace in September, followed by another loss at Chelsea a week later. Upon returning from the international break, they were shocked by a home defeat to Manchester United and then suffered another loss in London.
Reflecting on the aftermath, the Italian forward said: "No-one was speaking, because afterwards everyone knows. Sometimes you don't have to speak about the situation.
"You know what's going on. So no-one spoke because we have to think about what we can do better. Usually when we are in this situation, the first thing that comes to your mind is to give more, train harder. It was good that after the game we didn't talk because it's a sign that everyone wants to change. Everyone wants to change the situation."
The dismal run of form has seen Liverpool tumble from the summit down to seventh place. During their coach journey back to Merseyside, the squad began a thorough analysis of how to reverse their fortunes, though Chiesa emphasises there was no finger-pointing amongst the group.
He added: "Afterwards we went to the bus and then we started to talk about the situation and everyone wants to turn things around. That's the main goal and the first thing is that we don't have to blame anything or anyone.
"It's many reasons and there's not just one thing. We don't and I personally don't care if it's this or that that is causing us not to win. For me the most important thing is to work harder and then try to get the win.
"At the beginning of the season we were winning and no-one was questioning this and that and whatever, so just we have to win because it's Liverpool."
