Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes Anthony Gordon should choose Manchester United if he leaves Newcastle.
That's despite Gordon reportedly being a boyhood Liverpool fan. The 25-year-old winger, who has been deployed as a striker at times this season, continues to be linked with a move away from Newcastle. He's enjoying another good season at St. James' Park, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists, and has a good chance of being in England's World Cup squad.
It's believed Gordon, who graduated from Everton's academy, was close to joining Liverpool during the summer of 2024 and has recently been linked with Arsenal. Yet former Red Johnson thinks Old Trafford could be the ideal destination for Gordon.

"Obviously, he's a Liverpool fan, so for a Liverpool fan to play for United, it could be a bit odd for him. But at Arsenal, you've got too many similar players. I don't think he'd be needed as much. Under Michael Carrick, they've obviously kicked on a lot more.
"I think the way he plays, he would get game time, and I just think that would probably suit him best right now."

Gordon was part of Liverpool's academy, but he joined Everton as an 11-year-old after being released by the Reds. He played 78 times for the Toffees and spent time on loan at Championship side Preston before completing a move to Newcastle in January 2023.
Gordon's £45 million ($60 million) price tag raised eyebrows, but it's proven to be money well spent. He's been a regular for Eddie Howe's team since his transfer and helped it win last term's Carabao Cup, although he was suspended for the final against Liverpool.
The winger has also become a star for England. He helped the Young Lions win the U21 Euros in 2023, being named Player of the Tournament, and was part of the squad that lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. He has 16 senior caps for the Three Lions.
Gordon addressed his failed move to Liverpool in an interview with the Daily Mail last August.
"It was difficult for me because one, I had the Euros, which was horrendous for me mentally," he said. "I was there, I wasn’t playing."
Newcastle was considering selling Gordon to Liverpool to avoid PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) sanctions, but the Magpies ultimately sold Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest instead.
Gordon added: "Then I had the transfer stuff. With PSR, I thought I was going to leave at some point in the window. It didn’t happen.
"I had to get my head around that to begin with (thinking he was going), and then to get my head around it again (when it didn’t happen) was hard."
