Liverpool fans hijack Legends stream to send clear Arne Slot message

As Liverpool prepared to face Borussia Dortmund in a special legends charity match at Anfield, the YouTube livestream was flooded with comments calling for the dismissal of first-team head coach Arne Slot.

With the international break in full swing, competitive action was paused at Anfield, and instead, a charity match was arranged against Dortmund. Several former stars, including Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch, returned to Merseyside for the occasion, with another beloved figure also back at Anfield.

Former head coach Jurgen Klopp returned to the dugout with a sell-out crowd at Anfield. However, with thousands watching the action unfold from home, fans turned a positive occasion into a negative, calling for Slot's removal.

The legends' match was made available to watch for free on social media platforms, but as Gerrard gave interviews ahead of the game, fans were only focused on one subject. The comments section was flooded with "Slot out" remarks, with calls for Klopp to return or for Xavi Alonso to be hired immediately.

Slot replaced Klopp ahead of the 2024-25 season and led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his debut year. Liverpool also suffered a narrow penalty shootout loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, before the French giants went on to win the competition.

Last season saw little investment into the squad, with Slot doing his best to manage the players handed over to him by Klopp. However, a busy transfer window over the summer saw the roster change dramatically, and things have been more unstable this season.

Liverpool's title defense has been underwhelming, and Slot is fighting an uphill battle to secure a spot in the Champions League next season. Liverpool is fifth in the Premier League, but faces major ties in the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain awaits once again in the Champions League, while Manchester City will face Liverpool in the FA Cup. It's believed the club hierarchy is committed to Slot in the long term, but fans' patience has been tested this season.

While results have dropped off, star player Mohamed Salah has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season. Salah signed a two-year extension last season, but has mutually agreed to cancel his contract 12 months early.

Salah had a public falling out with Slot at the end of last year, after being frequently benched by the head coach. Salah said he'd been "thrown under the bus" and was temporarily dropped from the squad for his comments.

While Salah was reintegrated and the situation cooled, it appears that something had to give, and the Egyptian announced he would leave after nine seasons. The announcement has not boosted Slot's popularity.

Liverpool is not a club that frequently changes managers, and supporters are known for backing coaches and players through tough periods. However, Slot has struggled to receive that same patience and loyalty.

Slot still has an opportunity to win silverware this season, but finishing inside the top four of the Premier League is a priority. Liverpool is five points off the top four with seven games remaining.
