Some Liverpool fans showed its support for Arne Slot by displaying a banner with the words “Arne’s Slot Machine Believe!” during Liverpool's win over Newcastle over the weekend.

Slot has faced criticism from many fans this season after the club went on a run of five wins in 18 Premier League games, but he has clearly not lost the backing of all supporters.

The display of the pro-Slot banner preceded a win that eased the pressure on the Liverpool boss, as the Reds came from behind to romp to a 4-1 victory over Newcastle.

Liverpool fell behind to a goal from Anthony Gordon, but a Hugo Ekitike brace coupled with goals from Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konate secured all three points.

The victory was Liverpool's first Premier League win of 2026 at the sixth attempt, after kicking off the near year with four wins and a defeat.

"We are in an industry where it’s all about results," Slot said in a post-game press conference. "And I’ve asked the players [after the 3-2 defeat by Bournemouth a week earlier] that we have to improve in both boxes because in between we do so many things at such a high level.

"In the last two games, scoring 10 and only conceding one, I think I can safely say that that has been a big improvement. So yeah, pleased and happy that we have these two results (the win over Newcastle as well as the 6-0 Champions League win against Qarabag). But because of the many points we’ve dropped, we are also aware that this is certainly not enough."

Slot added: "We had a very tough first half-hour, but after that first half-hour we could have scored more goals. It took quite a long time before we scored the third; we had a lot of opportunities to score earlier, but we just kept on fighting.

"There was a great combination between the fans and the players and I think that it is indeed important to come back from behind, but I think it’s even more important the way we played in both boxes."

Liverpool's win over Newcastle kept the Reds firmly on the tails of the teams above them in the table as they aim to build momentum in a bid to qualify for next season's Champions League.
