Liverpool fans make same point about unrecognizable legend during Chelsea game

Martin Skrtel battled with Diego Costa once again in the legends game on Saturday with the two re-living their rivalry from over a decade ago.

Costa was yellow-carded as the pair played as if the game was a Premier League affair despite both being retired from the sport. The duo had faced each other on many occasions during their time as rivals in the league, regularly going back-and-forth with each other.

And while fans enjoyed seeing Liverpool legends on the field, with Pepe Reina, Yossi Benayoun and Jason McAteer back in red, Skrtel's look had everyone saying the same thing.

For all of his eight years with the Reds, Skrtel rocked the no-hair look, always choosing to shave his head while becoming an iconic player with the team.

His no-nonsense style of defending had made him a fan favorite at times, while also getting on the wrong side of supporters with multiple occasions of reckless play that cost the team.

In the game against Chelsea on Saturday though, Skrtel looked like a new man with a head full of hair while smiling away in the game which Liverpool went on to win - courtesy of a second-half winner from Ryan Babel.

Seeing Skrtel in action, one fan wrote: "Skrtel has hair!!!!! So he was playing bald head by choice!!!!" as another tweeted: "Martin Skrtel with hair! Man looks way younger than when he was actively playing football. What happened."

A third fan tweeted: "Can’t believe Skrtel can grow his hair perfectly well but just chose to be bald his entire career."

In actuality, Skrtel has had hair for almost a decade now - growing it back after he departed the Reds in 2016 when joining Fenerbahce.

The Slovakian center-half had a similar haircut to what he had on Saturday when playing in Turkey, where he spent five years after leaving Jurgen Klopp's Reds.

Skrtel spent the final year of his career in Slovakia before retiring in 2022, returning to Liverpool on several occasions to play in the legends games in the last three years.

Throughout his time at Anfield, Skrtel had partnered the likes of Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger, Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren and even Joe Gomez in his final year at the club.

Skrtel made a total of 320 appearances for Liverpool while scoring 18 goals.
