Liverpool fans send Thiago Alcantara plea after starring in Legends game

Liverpool fans are convinced that Thiago Alcantara could still start for the first time after being stunned by his performance during a legend's match against Borussia Dortmund

Thiago Alcantara opened the scoring for Liverpool against Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's legends' charity match, and fans believe that the Spanish midfielder could still play for the first team.

The former Liverpool star dominated the midfield at the start of the game and needed just six minutes to find the back of the net. Thiago seamlessly linked up with former stars Steven Gerrard and Ryan Babel, exciting the sell-out crowd inside Anfield.

The 34-year-old retired in July 2024 after battling persistent injuries, but was a world-class talent when fit. However, Liverpool fans have called for the club to re-sign him until the end of the season after he impressed with his effortless contributions.

"Thiago could still play in this team," one fan wrote on X. "Can Thiago return back to the team & help the current midfield?" another added.

"Hahahaha Thiago having a field day here," a third wrote. "GIVE THIAGO A SIX MONTH CONTRACT, I HAVE SEEN ENOUGH," another demanded.

"Thiago might be retired but he’s still better than our current midfield," one ruthlessly claimed. "Can we wrap Thiago in bubble and have him ready for PSG," another questioned.

"Watched 7 minutes of Thiago here, and I'd honestly get him on a 6 month contract and start him against PSG. He's still unbelievable," one fan claimed.

When fit, Thiago was one of the most talented midfielders in the world and came through the legendary Barcelona academy. After spending five seasons with the Barcelina first team, Thiago moved to Bayern Munich, and his career began to flourish.

While Thiago was adored at Barcelona, he struggled to break into a legendary midfield trio of Xavi, Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets. He instantly became a star at Bayern, winning seven Bundesliga titles and the Champions League before joining Liverpool.

Thiago made 98 appearances for Liverpool over four seasons, but battled injury problems that hindered him from showing his full potential. However, he still showed signs of brilliance and became an Anfield favorite on the field.

With Liverpool struggling in the Premier League this season, and tough clashes against Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City approaching, fans claimed that Thiago could still contribute. Liverpool is five points off the top four in the Premier League with seven games remaining.

Retaining the Premier League title is no longer an option, but Liverpool could save its season with a trophy. To win the Champions League, Liverpool must get past Paris Saint-Germain, who won the competition last season.

In the FA Cup, Liverpool faces City in the quarterfinals. Head coach Arne Slot has made numerous lineup changes this season, but unfortunately, Thiago is no longer available.
