Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker leaves pre-season tour for personal reasons

2 weeks ago 63

Alisson Becker has left Liverpool's pre-season training camp in Asia because of personal reasons and will not be involved in the Reds' clash with Yokohama Marinos in Japan tomorrow.

Arne Slot's side will return to the UK following its final fixture of the tour, with a double-header at Anfield against Athletic Club scheduled for August 4. Alisson will rejoin the rest of the squad for training when they are back in Kirkby again, The Athletic reports. He was absent from Liverpool's most recent training session.

Against Yokohama Marinos, Giorgi Mamardashvili is likely to step into the starting XI in Alisson's place. Fellow summer arrival Freddie Woodman might also be among those to feature in the game.

Youngsters Armin Pecsi and Kornel Misciur are also with the Liverpool squad in Asia, so Slot will not be short of alternative options. And Alisson could return for the game with Athletic Club that concludes the Reds' summer preparations.

Alisson is the third Liverpool player to leave the club's pre-season tour in Asia. Joe Gomez was the first to leave, heading back to England with a minor injury that is not expected to keep him out for long.

It was determined that Gomez would be best served recovering from the setback at home rather than remaining with the team. His absence leaves Slot with only two senior center-back options.

Luis Diaz also left the camp yesterday, with the Colombian winger heading to Bayern Munich. He is expected to join up with the German side soon ahead of completing his medical examinations.

Once they are done, Diaz will sign for Bayern Munich for a fee that could reach $88 million (£66 million) including add-ons. The 28-year-old was keen to move on and first expressed a desire to leave Liverpool in the summer of 2024.
