Liverpool handed Rodrygo boost as Real Madrid transfer exit on the cards

22 hours ago 5

Rodrygo could leave Real Madrid next year after failing to nail down a starting spot under new Los Blancos manager Xabi Alonso.

The Brazilian winger was linked with a move to Liverpool last year, and the potential to sign him in 2026 could appeal to the Reds, considering the lack of depth the squad has on the right side of the attack.

Mohamed Salah is the only genuine right winger in the team at the moment, and he is clearly at the back end of his Liverpool career.

Jeremie Frimpong could be used on the right side of Liverpool's attack when he returns to fitness, but Rodrygo is clearly more proven in an attacking role and could be a wise addition to Arne Slot's squad.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Madrid is still trying to find an "internal" solution for Rodrygo's struggles, with the Brazilian yet to score a single goal this season.

In fact, Rodrygo's goalless spell spans a whopping 31 games, which stretches back to a Champions League game against Atletico Madrid in March. If the Brazilian's form doesn't pick up, though, a departure next year is a very real possibility.

Manchester City is named as one of the clubs that were interested in signing Rodrygo earlier this year, but it is not clear whether City would be interested in going back in for him in 2026.

The potential departure of Savinho, who nearly left City to join Tottenham earlier this year and has had a poor season, could open up a spot in Pep Guardiola's squad for Rodrygo.

Mohamed Salah in action for Liverpool against Sunderland

Mohamed Salah is Liverpool's only genuine right winger

As for Liverpool, Salah started on the bench for a third Premier League game in succession on Saturday as he was left out of the starting line-up against Leeds United.

Prior to this three-game sequence, Salah had not been left out of a starting line-up in the Premier League since Jurgen Klopp was the Liverpool manager.

Explaining his decision ahead of kickoff, Slot said: “It’s never an easy decision because we all know what a great player he is. But it is also up to me to pick the team that I think we need today. That’s why I made the decision”.

Salah has had a tough season, failing to recapture the remarkable form from last term which helped to fire Liverpool to the title.
