Liverpool has already been told Rodrygo could be perfect signing amid Mohamed Salah warning

Fernando Morientes has already told his former club Liverpool why Rodrygo could be the perfect signing this summer as Real Madrid looks as though it could offload the Brazilian.

Speculation is growing around Rodrygo’s future as he looks to have fallen further out of favor with Real. Xabi Alonso found himself having to field questions about the 24-year-old’s lack of opportunities at the Club World Cup, having left him on the bench for three of Madrid’s six games at the tournament.

The latest reports suggest a meeting has been planned for next week to decide upon Rodrygo’s future, with Real said to be leaving the final decision up to the player.

It’s also suggested that Rodrygo wants to stay in Europe if he does leave the Bernabeu, and that he may be prioritizing a move to the Premier League.

That could well open the door for Liverpool, with the Reds having been linked along with Manchester City and Arsenal - the latter has been touted as the favorite to land his signature in some quarters, although the Reds do have previous with Rodrygo.

The player revealed last year he came close to joining Liverpool as a youngster back in 2017, with his agent even going as far as to claim Jurgen Klopp flew to Brazil in order to try and entice him on a move to Anfield.

Rodrygo would ultimately stay put at Santos before reaching an agreement with Real a year later. If the opportunity is open again though, Morientes feels Liverpool should take it.

The former Spain international played for both the Reds and Real during his career, and while he feels Rodrygo’s signing might cause a headache for Mohamed Salah, he also believes the Brazilian would be a perfect fit in the Premier League.

"If Rodrygo leaves Real Madrid, I'd love for him to go to Liverpool,” Morientes said in April, courtesy of bet365's UEFA Champions League coverage.

“However, he plays in Mohamed Salah's position, which would mean Salah wouldn't be in the team anymore, which I'm not too keen on either.

"But it's true that Rodrygo has Premier League qualities. Open games, games with space, games with limited resources where he has to navigate in short spaces, a player with tremendous quality and individual talent that can do both. I'd like to see him in the Premier League, and I'd like to see him at Liverpool to see how he performs in that league."

Liverpool.com says: It will be interesting to see what happens with Rodrygo this summer. No doubt there will be a lot of clubs keeping a keen eye out for the result of that meeting next week.

Whether Liverpool would go in for him again remains to be seen, although the Reds will likely have their sights on a central defender and a No.9 as their priorities, meaning Rodrygo might just be out of the question.
