Liverpool has extra two hours to complete Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi transfers

3 days ago 6

Transfer deadline day is finally here, and Liverpool is among the clubs in a frenzy to finalize last-minute deals. Premier League clubs and those below have until 7 pm UK time (2 pm Eastern Time, 11 am Pacific Time) on Monday to sign contracts and ratify moves.

Once that window closes, all business must cease - almost. Teams can still complete a few deals post-deadline if they submit an official transfer deal sheet.

If this is done, a club can be granted an additional couple of hours to finalize a transfer, which may come as welcome news for the Reds as they look to get deals for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi over the line. However, there are certain rules they must adhere to ensure these deals go through.

So, what's the process? And how does a club submit a deal sheet?

When is the transfer deadline?

The summer transfer window of 2025 shuts at 7 pm UK time on Monday, September 1. This summer's window has been slightly different, with two separate windows due to the Club World Cup.

The deadline has also been moved slightly earlier this year, having typically been 11 pm UK time in the past.

What is a deal sheet?

A transfer deal sheet is a document that allows teams to officially confirm a transfer agreement before the transfer deadline expires. Once completed, the club is then given an extra two hours after the deadline to finalize a transfer.

They were introduced to the Premier League in 2008 due to several transfers falling through because of paperwork issues.

What are the rules?

As mentioned, clubs are granted an additional two hours to ensure all necessary paperwork is finalized and approved. This theoretically gives any Premier League teams until 9 pm UK time (4 pm Eastern Time, 1 pm Pacific Time) on Monday to wrap up their deals.

If they fail to secure a transfer by this time, it won't go through.

However, there's another significant rule that clubs must adhere to if they wish to utilize a transfer deal sheet effectively. A deal between clubs needs to be agreed upon beforehand.

A transfer fee and any potential add-ons must be included in the information submitted on the deal sheet, indicating that only the official paperwork needs to be finalized.

Having already agreed fees with Newcastle and Crystal Palace, Liverpool will hope that means deals for Isak and Guehi can be completed, although the latter's move has been thrown into jeopardy in the final hours of the window.
