Liverpool has huge Alexander Isak hope as Saudi Pro League transfer stance emerges

3 weeks ago 36

Liverpool appears to be the most likely destination for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak this summer, if the Magpies can be convinced to cash in on the Swedish forward.

Last week, Liverpool made an initial approach to Newcastle to gauge its stance on Isak, which has long been that he isn't for sale. However, it has been widely reported today that the player would like to explore his options.

In the last few days, it has been claimed that Isak's representatives have been in talks with clubs in the Saudi Pro League. But according to Chronicle Live, a move to Al Hilal can be ruled out.

Isak is thought to want to continue playing at the highest level, competing for major trophies regularly. Moving to Liverpool, of course, as Premier League champion and a regular contender in the Champions League, would fit that requirement.

While Newcastle is on the rise, it is not currently on the same level as Arne Slot's side. Liverpool won the league title by 10 points over Arsenal and would have gone further in Europe had it not drawn PSG in the first knockout round.

"I'm confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window," Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said last week. "It's difficult for me to give 100 per cent clarity on any player.

"But Alex is happy at Newcastle. He loves the players, the staff, and the team. I'm confident he'll be here at the start of the season."

Isak scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season, with only Mohamed Salah netting more. And the suggestion is that he is now ready to take the next step in his career.

"It's hard to turn Liverpool down when they look like the favorites to win the Champions League and the favorites to win the Premier League," former Reds striker and Newcastle coach Dean Saunders told Liverpool.com this week.

"Isak is loved by all the fans at Newcastle but I think all the fans would understand if Liverpool come calling, then you have got to consider it.

"Isak must be happy there because he can see the project that Eddie is putting together. He won't want to leave but as a striker myself, if Real Madrid or Barcelona or Liverpool come in, and Man Utd used to be a top team, those are the teams that you wanted to play for.

"It's hard to say no to that. Look at the players you are playing with. Anthony Gordon, or Salah. There is no point beating about the bush: Liverpool have got better players than Newcastle."

Liverpool.com says: It would be a complete waste of Isak's talent for him to end up in Saudi Arabia. He should be playing for one of the best teams in the world, and Liverpool might be the only one that has a realistic chance of bringing him in.
