A Liverpool legend has made a striking title prediction that could catch the attention of Arne Slot.

The Reds entered the season as clear favorites after a big summer spending spree. However, Slot’s side soon fell behind, sitting 10 points adrift of Arsenal in first place with 22 games remaining.

Despite the gap, the Premier League table remains tightly packed, with every team having already dropped more points than the margin between first and seventh, including eighth-placed Sunderland. Liverpool has started to regain form heading into Christmas and will be hopeful of securing a positive result against Tottenham on Saturday.

The game against Spurs represents the Reds' toughest fixture of the festive period. Following the London trip, Liverpool faces home games against Wolves and Leeds.

A victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could set Liverpool up for four consecutive Premier League wins.

Former Reds full-back Steve Nicol believes that if they achieve this run, the Reds could realistically keep their hopes alive in an unexpected title race.

With a crucial meeting against Arsenal scheduled for January, Nicol suggests that consistent wins could see Liverpool re-enter the title conversation ahead of the head-to-head clash with Arsenal.

"I’m a little worried. It’s given me cause for concern that we’re going to Tottenham, and I think, 'We can’t lose to this Tottenham side.' But then I’ve thought that a few times this season. The closer the game gets, I’m thinking we possibly could!" Nicol told ESPN FC.

"That feels strange to say because I just don’t feel as though Liverpool will be in the title race, which means they’re not going to put themselves in that position by the time they play Arsenal!

"I’m really all over the shop, this Liverpool side makes you go all over the place. I just know that Liverpool are sometimes capable of beating themselves.

"I’m going to say Liverpool win the game, but there’s always that little bit of doubt because of what we’ve seen from them this season."

While Liverpool’s form is improving, this season has repeatedly shown that being the favorite doesn’t guarantee a win. The Reds should, however, be expected to beat Wolves and Leeds at Anfield, making the Tottenham clash particularly significant.

Any push back toward the top of the table will also depend on Arsenal dropping points, so the upcoming fixtures are worth noting.

Before facing Liverpool, Mikel Arteta’s players travel to Everton, host Brighton and Aston Villa, and then visit Bournemouth. All winnable games, but none are straightforward.

If Arsenal slips up and Liverpool maximizes its results, the stage could be set for an intriguing showdown at the Emirates on January 8. For now, though, the priority is securing another win in London.
