Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones playfully crashed an interview with team-mate Cody Gakpo, humorously objecting to the Dutch forward's claim that new recruit Jeremie Frimpong was the team's quickest player.
Gakpo was chatting with LFCTV as the squad continued their pre-season campaign in Asia, having just touched down in Hong Kong ahead of an upcoming fixture against AC Milan.
Alongside Frimpong, Liverpool have welcomed a number of new additions, including record-breaking $157 million (£116M) signing Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, with Hugo Ekitike also poised to complete a move to the club.
Speaking about Frimpong, a fellow Dutch international, Gakpo complimented the full-back's attacking style following his $40M (£29.5M) switch from Bayer Leverkusen, emphasizing his blistering speed out wide.
"[He will bring] a lot. I think he has a lot of quality," Gakpo said of Frimpong. "But I think one of his biggest qualities is he is maybe already the fastest player on the team.
"He is very fast, he has a good cross, he can defend, he can attack," he added. "I think he can help us a lot."
At that moment, Jones walked into the frame, laughing and offering his own glowing assessment of Gakpo - while cheekily asserting that the forward, not Frimpong, held the speed crown.
"He's an incredible player," Jones said as he stepped into the picture. "Probably the fastest in the team, one of the strongest, got the best technique, yeah, yeah, yeah, Cody Gakpo."
Gakpo, surprised by his team-mate's comment, burst out laughing at the interruption and responded: "Oh my god! Thanks Curt, thanks Curt!"
Since joining Liverpool from PSV in 2023, 26-year-old Gakpo has established himself as a key player at Anfield. He has found the net 41 times in 128 games, playing a major role in their Premier League-winning campaign last season.
He netted 10 times in league action and added another 18 goals across all competitions, solidifying his position as a go-to option on the left flank under new manager Arne Slot.
Jones, on the other hand, is a product of Liverpool's academy and has now played 179 senior matches since debuting in the 2019-20 campaign. Last season, he featured 46 times across all competitions under Slot's leadership.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are on the verge of finalizing Ekitike's arrival. The reigning league champions have agreed a $107M (£79M) fee with Eintracht Frankfurt for the striker, who Slot believes will offer strong competition to players like Luis Diaz in the forward line.
