Liverpool legend Ian Rush is recovering in hospital after being urgently admitted last week due to breathing difficulties.
The 64-year-old ex-Liverpool forward was taken to the Countess of Chester, as reported by the Daily Mail. He would have been expected to attend Saturday's game with Brighton at Anfield.
It is stated that he is 'recovering well' but remains in hospital as he continues to be monitored. Rush is suspected to have been caught by the 'superflu' outbreak.
One of the finest British strikers of all time, Rush is an ambassador at Anfield and is Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer with 346 goals.
The report says the alarm was raised earlier in the week when Rush began to feel unwell at home. He was rushed to hospital and placed into the ICU where he was given urgent attention, it says.
Earlier this year, Rush had his say on Mohamed Salah's contract situation, with the Egyptian at the time hoping to pen a new deal and continue chasing down his goalscoring record.
"I'm a great believer that records are there to be broken, but you've gotta be winning trophies," Rush said. "I'm a good friend of Mohamed as well, so if you do it, make sure you're winning trophies!
"It'll probably be a three-year [contract needed to break his record]. Nobody knows what's gonna happen, at the moment he's enjoying playing.
"He's playing the best in the world at the moment, so let's enjoy him and see what happens at the end of the season."
Salah, of course, penned a new two-year contract in April. This week, he has been the center of attention after an explosive interview at Elland Road.
The so-called 'superflu' epidemic extends all over the country, with hospitals across Britain declaring critical incidents. Some schools have closed and the return of face mask rules has been floated.

This winter could see the UK face its worst flu season on record, with cases also spiking across the continent.
In Birmingham, the University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has declared a critical incident at four hospitals due to "exceptional" numbers of patients with flu.
Elsewhere, the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust has also declared a "critical incident".
Royal Stoke Hospital and Stafford County Hospital said they were experiencing 'extremely high demand'. Patients have been asked to use A&E only for life-threatening conditions.
