Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah sends heartfelt goodbye to Darwin Nunez

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah sent an emotional goodbye to Darwin Nunez after the Uruguayan left Liverpool earlier this week.

Salah and Nunez were teammates at Liverpool for three seasons, but while Salah has scored prolifically ever since he moved to Anfield in 2017, Nunez failed to meet expectations after arriving from Benfica in 2022.

Nunez tallied 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool, and was guilty of missing a host of gilt-edged chances throughout his time on Merseyside.

By the end of his Liverpool career, there was a general acceptance from supporters that a parting of the ways would be best, but he remains something of a cult favorite with both fans and his old teammates.

Taking to social media, Salah sent Nunez message: "I consider myself lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend. You were always very real and brought so much good energy wherever you went.

"You made us laugh and showed heart in everything you did. You will be missed and I wish you the best in your new club."

Nunez, meanwhile, posted his own farewell message on social media earlier this week as he completed his lucrative move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.

“Thank you, Liverpool,” he posted on social media. “Three years on, it’s time to say goodbye. I’ll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.

“I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back - through the highs and through the lows.

“Liverpool will always be part of who I am. I’ll miss you more than words can say. To all the staff and my teammates - thank you and all the very best for the future.”

The money that Liverpool raised for Nunez is set to be put toward further signings before the closure of the transfer window.

Alexander Isak remains intent on forcing his way out of Newcastle amid interest from Liverpool, while the Reds are working on deals to sign center-backs Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni ahead of the closure of the window in a bid to address the squad's lack of numbers in defense.

Liverpool is hopeful of signing both Leoni and Guehi, as the club wants to sign a more experienced player (Guehi) alongside the highly rated youngster.
