Kieran Morrison is set to remain with Liverpool beyond transfer deadline day despite interest from Germany in the teenager.

Morrison has impressed at Under-21 level this season and has provided nine goal involvements in his 11 league appearances. Those performances have caught the eye of Arne Slot, who handed the winger his senior debut in October and has twice named Morrison on the bench this term.

Unsurprisingly, the Reds are keen to tie the youngster down to a long-term contract, with his current terms set to expire in 2027. Liverpool.com understands talks over a new deal began last month, although they are in their infancy at this stage.

Liverpool does not plan to let Morrison leave on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline. The German side Schalke approached Liverpool last week regarding a possible short-term move, but the Anfield hierarchy quickly rebuffed that interest.

The Northern Irish youth international is set to remain at Liverpool for the rest of the season and is in Slovakia on deadline day ahead of the Reds’ UEFA Youth League encounter against Zilina.

He has trained regularly with the first team this term and is highly regarded by Slot. Morrison started the Carabao Cup third-round defeat to Crystal Palace in October and was named on the bench for the Premier League loss at Brentford a few days prior.

The 19-year-old was one of several youngsters selected in the matchday squad for last week’s Champions League win over Qarabag.

The attacker plays predominantly from the right wing and prefers to cut inside on his favored left foot, but he is also comfortable in a more central role.

Morrison captained Liverpool’s Under-21s last week in the away win at Brighton & Hove Albion, and netted a hat-trick in a 7-0 victory over Arsenal earlier in January.

Morrison joined from Manchester United’s youth academy at Under-14 level and signed a first professional contract in April 2024.

Speaking to Redmen TV last month, Under-21 coach Rob Page said Morrison has made a huge impression this season.

“Since I've been here now for six months, he's shown an enormous amount of maturity,” said the former Wales boss.

“He's going to have little bumps in the road along the way, but I'm really pleased with the way he's developing. He's been over with the first team and the gaffer likes him; he's been over there, and he trains really well.

“So that's all he can do, he can just keep trying to bring the best version of himself every day in training and then come game time like that, it becomes second nature for him.”
