Liverpool news and transfers LIVE: Pep Guardiola claim, Ibrahima Konate injury, Alexander Isak plan

After defeats to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea this week, Liverpool will look to get back to the drawing board when it faces Manchester United next, but there is now an international break for everyone to reset.

"It is a bit ironic that we concede in two different games in the last minute," Virgil van Dijk told reporters at Stamford Bridge. "There is still plenty of work to do. We know in football, every three or four days, things can change and momentum can change."

That was a message reiterated by Pep Guardiola after Manchester City moved within two points of Liverpool and three of Arsenal by beating Brentford in West London.

"It’s just seven games for the Premier League," he said. "I would say three weeks ago Liverpool apparently won the Premier League and now they have not."

It is far too soon to be worrying about Liverpool and the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak are only just getting started — but the next couple of weeks could feel quite long after a disappointing week.

Alexander Isak fitness

Alexander Isak says he is getting closer to being properly match fit at Liverpool after arriving for a fee of around $169 million (£125 million) on transfer deadline day.

"I feel good," Isak told club channels. "I’ve been working hard to get back to my best and I’m still working to get to my best form. It was good to play out there again. I was hoping for a different result [against Chelsea] but we’ll keep working.

"I’m very excited for the whole season ahead. Game by game we have to improve of course if we want to achieve the things we want to. But yeah, really excited."
