Liverpool next 5 fixtures compared to Arsenal after Chelsea defeat

2 hours ago 21

For once, Liverpool fans might be glad to see the international break arriving after what has been a nightmare week for the Reds.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea was the third in a row for Arne Slot’s side, having also been beaten by Galatasaray and Crystal Palace in the previous seven days, and it means they give up their lead at the top of the Premier League for at least the next two weeks.

Having held a five-point lead over Arsenal just seven days ago, the Reds now find themselves a point behind the Gunners, with momentum having shifted toward north London in recent games.

Of course, we are still in the very early stages of this season’s title race, and there will no doubt be plenty of twists and turns to come over the next few months.

Liverpool though will have to improve when it returns following the international break. Even during their winning streak at the start of the season, the Reds weren’t exactly convincing, and Slot still looks to be working out his best approach with his new-look side.

He’ll hope to see a response in the next few fixtures, with a huge game awaiting his players when they return from international duty.

Liverpool next five Premier League games

  • Manchester United (H) - October 19
  • Brentford (A) - October 25
  • Aston Villa (H) - November 1
  • Manchester City (A) - November 9
  • Nottingham Forest (H) - November 22

It will be crucial that Liverpool returns to winning ways when Manchester United comes to town on October 19. Those next three games do look to be an opportunity for the Reds to rediscover some form before a tough trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City.

While Liverpool will be hoping to return to form over its next few games, it will also be hoping a slip-up or two from Arsenal.

Arsenal next five Premier League games

  • Fulham (A) - October 18
  • Crystal Palace (H) - October 26
  • Burnley (A) - November 1
  • Sunderland (A) - November 8
  • Tottenham (H) - November 23

That fixture list does look quite kind for Mikel Arteta's side, although Liverpool fan would tell you to write off Crystal Palace at your peril.

Having fallen a point behind, the Reds will not be expecting any favors here, although it is important that Slot's side is ready to pounce on any dropped points from Arsenal - especially with the title race looking as though it will be much tighter this season.

Of course, both sides will have Champions League and Carabao Cup duties to contend with as well, with Liverpool facing Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid while takes on Atletico Madrid and Slavia Prague before the next international break.

Again, the Gunners' games do look more favorable than the Reds', but it's up to Slot's side to prove why it was seen as the favorite to land this season's title.
