Liverpool on red alert as star who bullied Ibrahima Konate has transfer clause

4 hours ago 25

Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool have been alerted to the situation surrounding Bournemouth's star, Antoine Semenyo.

The Cherries managed a significant coup over the summer by securing a new contract for Semenyo, but it has now emerged that this deal includes a release clause. The 25-year-old hit the headlines on the opening day of the Premier League season by scoring twice against Liverpool in Bournemouth's 4-2 loss at Anfield, giving Ibrahima Konate a torrid time during the second half.

Semenyo had an impressive run last season with Bournemouth, netting a career-high 11 goals following the departure of Dominic Solanke. This term, he's already chalked up six goals and three assists in just seven appearances.

His performance has reignited rumors about a potential move, with several top clubs reportedly interested in the Ghanaian forward.

Liverpool and United, who were both keen on Semenyo during the summer, will be buoyed by talkSPORT's claim that his new five-year contract contains a release clause.

While the exact details of the clause - which would make Semenyo available at a set price - remain undisclosed, it's believed that Bournemouth value their star striker at around £75 million ($100 million).

It's understood that Bournemouth agreed to the inclusion of such a clause as it was the club's best shot at securing Semenyo on a longer-term contract after his stellar performances last season.

Arsenal was also linked with the London-born talent last season, but its summer recruitment - securing Ebere Eze and Noni Madueke alongside striker Viktor Gyokeres - has seen those rumors fade. Liverpool and United have similarly strengthened their attacking options, yet remain connected with a potential summer move for Semenyo.

Tottenham has also emerged as a possible destination. Semenyo's former teammate Solanke is already at the north London outfit, alongside his international colleague Mohammed Kudus.

Semenyo has been representing his nation during the international break, featuring in World Cup qualifying victories away to the Central African Republic and at home to Comoros.

The triumphs secured Otto Addo's players first place in their group and confirmed their spot at next summer's tournament in North America.

It represents a stunning transformation after the Black Stars missed out on qualification for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Semenyo appeared in four of the six qualifying matches as Ghana finished bottom of its group behind Angola, Sudan, and Niger.

"I've grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I'm really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season," Semenyo said when his new Bournemouth deal was announced in July.

"From the fans to the staff and my teammates, I can't speak highly enough of the people around the club. It's a great place to be and I'm excited to get back to Bournemouth and continue the hard work with the new season just around the corner."
