Liverpool 'opens talks with Rodrygo's agents' over Real Madrid transfer exit

2 days ago 30

Liverpool has made strides toward the acquisition of Hugo Ekitike in recent days, and it's been hinted that the summer spending spree won't end there.

It's believed two more players could join Arne Slot's roster before the window slams shut, while four players could leave Merseyside. Luis Diaz is one of the biggest names in danger of moving on, with Bayern Munich chasing his signature.

Reportedly next in line to follow Ekitike to Anfield is Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Laying down the marker after clinching the Premier League title, Ekitike's imminent arrival would push Liverpool's expenditure on new signings this summer past $300 million.

With scant transactions conducted last year, the club was always in a strong financial position to support its head coach for his second year at the helm. In the remaining six weeks of the summer transfer window, it remains to be seen how far the Reds will extend their hefty budget to accommodate the necessary incoming players.

With that said, here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumors from Anfield...

Rodrygo contact

Liverpool's interest in Rodrygo is escalating, and the club has taken the next step in the process, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet reports that discussions have now commenced between Anfield bosses and the 24-year-old's representatives to explore the feasibility of his potential move to the Premier League, eight years after he initially turned down the Reds as a teenager.

No direct contact has been made with Real Madrid yet. England is reportedly Rodrygo's preferred destination, despite the allure of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern.

The Brazilian is poised to fully understand Madrid's plans for him next season, but as it stands, it appears his role in the squad under manager Xabi Alonso will remain unchanged; thus, the winger hasn't dismissed the idea of a move.

One in, one out

Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany had previously given his own update on Rodrygo.

The journalist suggested that Liverpool is keeping a close eye on the situation as Madrid is open to offloading its player, implying that Rodrygo himself is considering his options.

However, there's a significant if when it comes to the Reds making a move for this signing. Before they can proceed, they must be sure they are parting ways with Diaz.

As reported by the ECHO this summer, Liverpool has been against selling its No. 7, even turning down a bid from Bayern.

The German team is expected to return with an improved offer, so the situation remains fluid.
