Liverpool poised to reignite Alexander Isak pursuit after Luis Diaz transfer exit

2 weeks ago 66

Liverpool could now increase its efforts to sign Alexander Isak after Luis Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich was confirmed.

Diaz was officially unveiled by the German champions on Wednesday, having left the Reds’ tour of Asia on Monday in order to undergo a medical in Munich.

The Colombian has now signed a four-year deal with Bayern, with Liverpool set to receive $88 million as part of the deal. That will come as a major boost amid what has already been an expensive summer - and it looks as though Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are far from done with their business.

The Reds have already made six new signings this summer, including record transfer Florian Wirtz and latest addition Hugo Ekitike, but still have areas that require some attention.

A new center-back is required, while Diaz’s departure will increase the need for a new forward, especially if Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa are to follow him out of the exit door, and it seems Isak could well be the Reds’ next target.

Liverpool’s interest in the Newcastle striker is already well established, having had an approach to the Magpies turned down earlier this month.

Since then though, hopes of getting a deal done for the 25-year-old have grown after he told his current club he wants to leave, having been left out of Newcastle’s touring party to Asia.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool is likely to revisit its efforts to sign Isak now that the player has made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle, with the dynamics much different now compared to a couple of weeks ago.

Indeed, the Magpies have already dropped some hints that it may be softening its stance, having left Isak out of promotional material for the club’s new kit this week, despite the striker having been involved in the photoshoot.

What’s more, they are being heavily linked with RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, who is being touted as a possible replacement for Isak.

Speculation has been growing around Isak’s future recently, with reports suggesting that personal terms have already been agreed with Liverpool, while an offer is said to have been prepared by Hughes.

As well as Isak, The Athletic touches upon Liverpool’s need for a new center-back, and in particular the interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

There is some doubt though over whether the Reds would be willing to meet the London club’s valuation of the England international, given a free transfer next year may be more appealing when his contract expires.

Following on from Diaz’s exit, Liverpool is said to be open to offers for Nunez, with the Uruguayan attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, while a move to Italy may still be on the cards despite Napoli seemingly ending its interest, with Juventus being linked.
