Liverpool predicted line-up vs Fulham as Arne Slot faces Florian Wirtz dilemma

1 day ago 30

We're predicting the Liverpool head coach will make three changes from the side that drew against Leeds United on New Year's Day, as the Reds head to Craven Cottage

Arne Slot will have to weigh up fitness levels and his tactical approach when selecting Liverpool’s starting line-up against Fulham on Sunday.

The Dutchman has altered his approach slightly in recent games, and with a run of four Premier League matches in 13 days, Slot will need to ensure his players remain fresh. He has been boosted by the return of Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Cody Gakpo in recent weeks, and could see Joe Gomez available again on Sunday.

However, the Liverpool head coach was left frustrated by the options he could call upon from the bench when Leeds United traveled to Anfield on New Year’s Day.

“I think to say we had four players on the bench who haven't played any minutes in the Premier League and these players just keep going,” Slot lamented on Thursday.

However, Liverpool is expected to line up in a similar fashion at Craven Cottage as it did against Leeds.

Alisson will automatically start in nets, and has kept two clean sheets in his last four matches.

Ahead of the Brazilian, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate will almost certainly line up at center-back, although there is less certainty in the wide areas. Bradley or Frimpong could start, while Milos Kerkez will likely come in to replace Andy Robertson at left-back, after the Scotland captain was selected against Leeds.

In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones have formed a solid partnership in the middle of the pitch, and are likely to continue with Dominik Szoboszlai in some capacity.

The Hungarian could start in a no.10 role, as he did against Leeds, or move into a role on the right wing. Szoboszlai’s position could determine whether Frimpong or Alexis Mac Allister start.

On the left wing, Slot revealed Florian Wirtz is dealing with a knock, and with Gakpo available once again, there is a readymade option should a change be deemed necessary. With Wirtz starting all of the last seven league matches, that seems a real possibility.

Hugo Ekitike is expected to start up front. He had some bright moments in midweek, but lacked quality in the decisive moments. The Frenchman has scored five in his last five Premier League matches.

Another option for Slot to consider is Federico Chiesa after he started in the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he will most likely be named among the substitutes.

Liverpool predicted line-up: Allison; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Jones; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gakpo; Ekitike.
