Liverpool prepared for this week's Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Paris Saint-Germain in the best way possible, as the Reds recorded a confidence-boosting win over Fulham in the Premier League.

Rio Ngumoha showed why there is so much excitement surrounding him as he opened the scoring against the Cottagers, before Mohamed Salah scored his first Premier League goal at Anfield since November to secure victory.

Although all the attention over the last week or so has been on the PSG tie, the win against Fulham was a hugely important one in the race for Champions League qualification for next season.

Liverpool now has a four-point cushion over Chelsea in the top five of the Premier League standings, which is just as well, as the Reds do have a difficult run-in in the league – on paper, at least.

Now, though, the attention is fully back on matters in Europe, as Liverpool aims to pull off another memorable Anfield comeback in the Champions League.

The Reds have it in their DNA to do exactly that – as both Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona both found out during Jurgen Klopp's Anfield reign.

Given how dominant PSG was during last week's first leg, and the contrasting fortunes of both teams this season, a turnaround against PSG would be just as impressive as the one against Barcelona in 2019 – which was achieved when Liverpool was a much better team.

Arne Slot has decisions to make in several areas of the field with his starting line-up, and the one that Liverpool fans will be most interested in is whether Ngumoha retains his spot in the side.

Ngumoha gets fans on the edge of their seat like no other Liverpool player is currently capable of doing, and he would be an unknown quantity to PSG's defenders.

He is suspect when out of possession, though, so it remains to be seen whether Slot will trust him when Liverpool doesn't have the ball – but on a night like Tuesday, it is a risk worth taking, particularly considering how ineffective Cody Gakpo has been off the left in recent times.

Hugo Ekitike should come back in for Gakpo, who lined up through the middle against Fulham, while Salah will also have renewed confidence going into the game after his goal against Fulham.

Liverpool is going to need legs in midfield, and that means no Alexis Mac Allister. Florian Wirtz should be backed up in a midfield three by Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in slightly deeper roles.

The back four should remain unchanged from the Fulham game – it's silly how underused Andy Robertson has been this season – while Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to continue in goal, with Alisson still unavailable.

How Liverpool should line up against PSG: Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Ngumoha, Salah, Ekitike
