Liverpool pushing for very telling clause in Harvey Elliott transfer

1 week ago 59

Liverpool could offer a discounted price for Harvey Elliott to clubs that willing to include a buy-back clause in the deal.

There is a good chance that Elliott will leave Liverpool before the end transfer window closes, having started just two Premier League games last season.

Elliott's Reds career looked to be progressing encouragingly under Jurgen Klopp but it has stalled since Arne Slot took charge, and talks are currently ongoing between Liverpool and RB Leipzig over a possible move to the Bundesliga for the youngster.

It is reported by The Athletic that Liverpool could accept $53 million for Elliott on the condition that a buy-back clause is included in the deal.

If the buying club is not interested in including a buy-back clause in the deal, it is reported that Liverpool's asking price for Elliott would rise to $66 million. It is a clear sign that the club is not ready to give up on Elliott entirely and would like the option to potentially bring him back in the future, otherwise insisting on the buying club paying a higher price.

Leipzig could be in the market for a new attacking midfielder amid the possibility of Xavi Simons departing the club; Simons is the subject of interest from Chelsea.

Leipzig could have a decent budget to work with if it sells Benjamin Sesko as well as Simons; Sesko is the subject of interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Speaking in July, Elliott admitted he was considering his future at Liverpool — despite having supported the club since he was a young boy.

"If I had it my way, I would be here for the rest of my career, it’s as simple as that. I love everything about the club," Elliott said. "But at the same time, I kind of need to be selfish with myself and see what’s best for me.

"I have big ambitions, I want to get in the World Cup [squad], keep being successful as a player. I think it’s still something I need to review, I need to have a talk with everyone and review the situation.

“Obviously we have many new players that have come in, so whether it blocks the path for me, I’m not sure. It’s something for me to decide and have a look at. As I said, just review the situation.

“But my main focus is here. At the moment I’m here for the season, that’s as far as I’m aware, unless anything changes. We have a busy pre-season, it’s nonstop, I just need to make sure I focus on that and just be ready for anything.”
