Liverpool reassess Marc Guehi transfer strategy as 3 clubs have 'advantage' in race for Palace star

Liverpool might revisit their interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the January transfer window after a failed attempt last summer. The Reds had nearly clinched a deal for the England international on deadline day, but it fell through at the eleventh hour.

A $47 million deal was agreed between Liverpool and Palace for Guehi's services in September, but the move collapsed when Palace couldn't find a suitable replacement. As a result, Guehi remained at Selhurst Park, with Liverpool deciding not to chase another option in the closing hours of the window.

Since the botched transfer, speculation has been rife about Guehi's long-term future and whether Liverpool might make another bid for the centre-back.

The 25-year-old's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he could depart on a free transfer next summer.

Sky Sports has provided new details on Guehi's situation amidst ongoing rumors about his potential destination, claiming that Palace is preparing itself for Guehi's possible departure, whether that occurs in January or in the summer.

The report suggests that Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all possess an "advantage" over Liverpool in pursuing Guehi's signature.

It also states that Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, are tempted to submit a bid for Guehi in January, though it remains uncertain what fee would be required to prise the defender away from Selhurst Park mid-season.

Guehi has already come up against Liverpool on two occasions this season, proving victorious both times.

The centre-back featured in the Palace side that secured victory in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium in August and also contributed to the Eagles' triumph over the Reds in a Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park last month.

Liverpool's intentions for the January transfer window remain unclear, as does whether they're contemplating bringing in a fresh central defender.

Giovanni Leoni faces several months on the sidelines with an ACL injury, after the $35 million summer acquisition from Parma sustained the problem during his debut appearance against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

Questions also surround Ibrahima Konate's fitness following the reverse against Chelsea last weekend, with the defender withdrawn during the loss at Stamford Bridge due to a suspected quad problem.

Konate was also missing from France training on Tuesday evening, despite joining up with his national squad for the international break.
