Liverpool received audacious transfer offer from one of Jurgen Klopp's clubs

Aston Villa emerged victorious in the race for Harvey Elliott on transfer deadline day, following a summer of speculation about where England's U21 Euros star might land.

It became evident that Elliott needed to seek a move away from Liverpool after spending too much time warming the bench under Arne Slot last season. With only two Premier League starts last term, the 22-year-old is set to carve out his place at Villa Park under Unai Emery.

While the deal is initially a loan, an obligation-to-buy clause has been included in the contract, which will see Elliott become a permanent Villan for £35 million ($47 million) next summer. Villa also secured Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United, and Victor Lindelof joined on a free transfer after departing Old Trafford, further strengthening Emery's defensive line-up.

However, Elliott was the team's standout acquisition after a summer where the midfielder was sought after by clubs across Europe.

German team RB Leipzig made a bid for Elliott earlier in the window, but, as reported by The Athletic, it was only prepared to fork out €20 million ($23.5 million), roughly half of what Villa will ultimately pay Liverpool for his services.

Leipzig's bid for Elliott is interesting, as the German team is part of Red Bull's soccer group.

Jurgen Klopp is the global head of soccer for Red Bull and probably would've offered his opinion of Elliott.

Leipzig had eyed Elliott as a replacement for Xavi Simons, who moved to Tottenham, but the German team couldn't meet Liverpool's demands, and talks were abruptly ended.

"It feels incredible," Elliott told Villa TV after joining the Birmingham club.

"I want to say a big thank you for making this happen. Playing for a massive club like Aston Villa is every kid's dream. I can't wait to get started. To be an Aston Villa player is an incredible feeling."

Elliott added: "For me now, it's about kicking on as a player.

"The only way to do that is by playing games, and there's no better place to do that than here - especially with this manager, his philosophy, and the way he plays.

"Not only that, but his personal achievements as well. I was really drawn to it.

"I had a conversation with him, and I was blown away by how he spoke to me, how welcoming he was - that made me want it even more."
