Liverpool's next five games compared to title rivals Arsenal and Man City

Liverpool kicked off its Premier League title defence with a home win against Bournemouth, clinching a 4-2 victory over the Cherries at Anfield on Friday.

Arne Slot's team had established a 2-0 lead in the match courtesy of goals from Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo in each half. However, a second-half double from Antoine Semenyo put the Reds at risk of losing two points in their opening match as reigning champions.

Late strikes from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah ensured Liverpool started the campaign on a winning note. Slot and his team will now gear up for their next game of the new season, a 'Monday Night Football' clash against Newcastle.

"It was a great game to watch," said Slot. "This is what makes football so great, all three parties involved wanted a good game: Us, Bournemouth, and the referee.

"High tempo, no stoppages or time wasting.

"Well done to them, they went 2-0 down and kept on fighting, and so did we when they came back.

"In every running stat, they were very high last season, and you could see again how fit this team was, and they never gave up.
