Liverpool's potential starting XI for next game vs Burnley after transfer drama

2 days ago 4

Liverpool's transfer dealings have now wrapped up, marking a bustling summer at Anfield.

In total, the Reds have welcomed nine new faces this summer while also authorizing several departures before Monday's deadline. Arne Slot's players have triumphed in their first three Premier League matches and sit atop the table as they aim to retain their title.

Next on the agenda is a face-off against Burnley following the international break, set to take place at Turf Moor on September 14. Several of Liverpool's summer signings have already made their mark this season. However, the last-minute deals on deadline day could pave the way for a debut when the Reds square off against the Clarets later this month.

Liverpool finalized the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

The Reds struck a deal with the Magpies to bring the Sweden international to Anfield after months of rumors.

"I feel amazing," said Isak after signing for Liverpool. "It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club, and everything it stands for.

"It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there."

Isak will be aiming to secure the starting striker position for Liverpool, although whether that will materialize against Burnley remains uncertain.

The 25-year-old has yet to clock any minutes for Newcastle this season but may feature for Sweden during the international break.

If Isak does get the nod to start, it raises questions about how Slot might configure his attacking line. Hugo Ekitike could shift to the left wing in lieu of Cody Gakpo, or Slot could make a single change and select Isak over Ekitike in the center-forward role.

Slot also faces a choice on who to field as right-back, given the rise of Dominik Szoboszlai in that position.

Conor Bradley remained on the bench during the win over Arsenal, while Jeremie Frimpong could make a comeback from a hamstring injury post the international break.

Liverpool was unable to finalize a deal for Marc Guehi on deadline day, as Crystal Palace failed to secure a replacement for the center-back.

However, it's not hard to envision the Reds making another move for the England international.

Potential Liverpool starting XI against Burnley: Alisson Becker; Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez; Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister; Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo; Alexander Isak.
