Liverpool scouts 'watching' son of Brazilian star who stunned Premier League

3 hours ago 3

Liverpool has reportedly been scouting the son of Robinho, with the former Real Madrid and Manchester City star rising quickly through the ranks in Brazil.

Although the transfer window is now closed, with the Reds having just completed a sensational summer that saw the record signings of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak among a host of big-name arrivals, Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on potential additions for the future.

Marc Guehi is likely to be top of that list at the moment, with a deadline day move for the Crystal Palace defender having fallen through, although it looks as though Liverpool will wait until next summer now to try and sign him as a free agent.

The Reds will be looking at other areas as well though, and reports suggest they are casting their eye towards Brazil for a long-term option.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool has had a scout present at a number of Santos games this year to watch Robinho Jnr. The 17-year-old is said to be on the verge of the first team at the Sao Paulo club, and has been spending a lot of time alongside Neymar on the pitch.

Liverpool scout Dassler Marques has been taking charge of the scouting of the teenager, having been in attendance for a number of Santos games this season.

Reds fans will no doubt be familiar with Robinho Jnr’s father, who also came through the ranks at Santos before going on to forge a career for himself in Europe.

He scored 35 goals in 137 appearances for Real Madrid before joining Manchester City in 2008. Robinho was in effect the first major signing made following the Abu Dhabi United Group’s takeover of the club, with the Arab investment company’s purchase being confirmed the same day he was signed.

He would go on to score 16 goals in 53 appearances for City before spells with the likes of AC Milan, Guangzhou Evergrande and Istanbul Basaksehir, while also winning 100 caps for Brazil.

As well as Liverpool, Chelsea is said to be keeping an eye on Robinho Jnr. Despite the teenager having not yet nailed down a regular spot in Santos’ side, the club is said to have slapped a $58 million release clause on him.

Liverpool.com says: That is A LOT of money to be spending on a teenager, especially one that isn't playing in Europe. If Liverpool is seriously looking at Robinho Jnr, that it would have to be absolutely certain of his abilities before throwing that sort of money at Santos.

You also have to wonder whether the Reds really need him. Of course, he would be a long-term option, but Liverpool already has that with Rio Ngumoha, who is already making quite a name for himself.

Liverpool rarely goes in for transfers straight from South America, usually preferring to see how they fare elsewhere in Europe first, as we saw with the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, so it would be a surprise to see them spending nearly $60M on Robinho Jnr.
