Liverpool sent Jurgen Klopp reminder as Arne Slot's struggles continue

10 hours ago 34

Liverpool has now lost six of its last seven games in all competitions, breaking up that dire run with a 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

Crystal Palace (twice), Galatasaray, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Brentford have all gotten the better of Arne Slot's side in the last few weeks, with several problems emerging. To name just a couple, Liverpool is struggling with defending set-pieces, and looks physically at a disadvantage every time it takes to the field.

Nevertheless, while there is always pressure for Liverpool to win matches, there is a precedent for things turning around. Slot will be given the time to find a way of improving results.

"I have high respect for Arne Slot because I've known him for so long. He won't change," the former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen told Casino Hawks.

"He'll be the same, very measured and very honest in his opinion and observations. He doesn't make things worse than they really are because he knows they are playing some really good football and creating chances; they just don't put them in the back of the net.

"Last year, sometimes you catch a wave, you catch a flow, and everything that you hit goes in. Now they're hitting a wave that goes against them.

"You have to ride the wave, turn around, and jump back on it. But that can only be done by not changing anything.

"As I said, he's very measured in his comments, they all make sense. He has a natural calmness about him, and that is exactly what you need within the club to reassure the players.

"Yes, we brought in a few new players. Yes, they need a little bit of time.

"How can we fix it? We fix it on the training ground. Work hard, keep working hard, keep buying in, keep doing the things that we ask you to do, and eventually, we'll click. And again, there might only be one win."

Next up, Liverpool will take on Aston Villa at Anfield in the Premier League. Real Madrid and then Manchester City come after that in another huge week.

"Do you remember when Jurgen Klopp had a spell at Liverpool when they really got off the rails because there was a little bit of mental fatigue kicking in and Virgil van Dijk was injured?" Meulensteen continued.

"They managed to turn it around in-house, no worries. You always know that if you lose games with the expectations that Liverpool has, you create noise. But that's from the outside.

"You need to make sure that when we're in, it stays nice and calm. Don't start pointing fingers at each other. Just point fingers at the issues that need to be addressed, work at it, improve it, and move on."
