Liverpool set to lose wonderkid, 15, to Premier League rival and won't receive any money

Liverpool teenager Kai Morrall is reportedly set to join Leeds United in a blow to the Reds' academy system.

Morrall, 15, joined Liverpool at Under-9 level and has progressed through the ranks on Merseyside. He is primarily a wide attacker but has also played in central positions this season. But he will soon be playing elsewhere, as he believes his future will be best served at Elland Road with Leeds.

And in a bigger setback, Liverpool will not receive any compensation from its Premier League rivals for the teenager, because Morrall has come to a mutual agreement with the club.

Morrall, who represents Republic of Ireland at youth level, took to social media to confirm his exit from Liverpool.

He wrote: "After 8 years at Liverpool, it is time for me to say goodbye. I would like to thank all the staff and the coaches that helped me develop into a better player and a person.

"I will miss the memories and friends I made along the way however, I am looking forward to starting a new chapter and hopefully more things to come."

The development comes just a month after Morrall signed up with Prolific Sports Group, who already represents Liverpool first-team star Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool has been involved in a number of high-profile deals for teenagers in recent years, most notably Rio Ngumoha, who was snared from Chelsea in 2024, and Harvey Elliott from Fulham.

The deal left Chelsea furious but the Blues were entitled to a compensation fee as he left the club at the end of his contract. A tribunal was due to take place to determine the fee but those details have not yet been made public.

Liverpool was also ordered to pay a fee to Leicester for midfielder Trey Nyoni after reaching a similar agreement with the midfielder.

Both Nyoni and Ngumoha have since signed their first professional deals with Liverpool but Morrall's future lies away from the club.

He is reported to see a clearer pathway to the first team at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke's side currently sitting just outside the Premier League relegation zone.
