A Liverpool staff member has gone viral after their stunned reaction to Mohamed Salah’s claim that he was “thrown under the bus” by the club.
The Egyptian has recently been left out of Liverpool’s lineup, featuring for just 45 minutes across the last three matches. His absence is understood to be linked to a dip in form rather than, as the 33-year-old claims, a personal slight. Salah insists he feels he has been “thrown under the bus” and says his relationship with head coach Arne Slot has collapsed.
Speaking to reporters after the Leeds game, the forward delivered an extraordinary assessment of the situation: “I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
"I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.
“I don’t know why, but it seems to me that someone doesn’t want me at the club. It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.”
Part of Salah's tirade has been shared on X. In the background, you can see a member of the club's press office put his hand to his head before frantically typing on his phone.
Salah, 33, netted 29 Premier League goals during Liverpool’s title-winning 2024–25 campaign, thriving in Slot’s first year at the helm. But his form has dipped sharply since, mirroring Liverpool’s overall struggles.
The Egyptian, signed from Roma by Jurgen Klopp in 2017, has managed just four goals in 13 league appearances this season.
The Saudi Pro League has long targeted Salah, arguably the most high-profile Middle Eastern soccer player in the world, as a marquee addition to its growing list of global stars, which already includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane.
Sources suggest Al-Hilal, now coached by Simone Inzaghi, is among the clubs showing strong interest in securing his signature.
After the Leeds match, in which Liverpool surrendered leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before conceding a 96th-minute equalizer, Slot explained to Sky Sports why he chose not to bring Salah off the bench.
"It was more about controlling the game [at 3-2] and we didn't need a goal," said Slot before Salah's interview. "Normally when you need a goal, like last week against Sunderland, I brought Mo on."
At his pre-match press conference on Friday, Slot acknowledged the discussions surrounding Salah following the forward’s omission from the starting lineup.
"The chatter, yes, because he deserves that, he has been so influential for me and [for] six or seven years. It's completely normal people talk about it when he isn't playing," added Slot.
