Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been tipped to sign for an MLS franchise in the summer after announcing his departure from Anfield a year before his contract expires.

Salah confirmed during the March international break that he is entering the final few months of his time at Liverpool, nine years on from signing from AS Roma. It is yet to be determined which club he will sign for, though there will be no shortage of options.

"Salah to MLS or Saudi? It depends on which culture he wants to go to, but they will love him everywhere," ex-Reds star Vladimir Smicer told Bet Victor. "I think in the US, for me, football is growing there. The stadiums are starting to fill. It's a good atmosphere.

"If I was in his position, I'd go to the US, but we'll see what he's going to decide. Maybe he can surprise us and he can stay in Europe. You never know, but in the US, he would be a megastar like Lionel Messi."

This season has not gone to plan for Salah and on Wednesday, the Egyptian was an unused substitute as Liverpool lost 2-0 to PSG, with Arne Slot taking him out of the team and not bringing him on.

But Smicer says that is not only about Salah's physical levels declining. There were lots of changes last summer and he might also be missing one or two of the previous version of Slot's team.

"I think a big reason it hasn’t worked out this season is that he lost Trent Alexander-Arnold as a right back," Smicer continued.

"He could play alongside him with his eyes closed. They knew each other so well on the pitch.

"This season, he has had Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, and sometimes Dominik Szoboszlai. It’s not comfortable for him.

"He’s got a lot of game in his legs for years to come. It won’t be at Liverpool, but he will have the last word."

Next up for Liverpool is the visit of Fulham in the Premier League. PSG then comes to Anfield on Tuesday in the return leg at Anfield, with Salah likely to be involved in both matches.

Liverpool.com says: Taking Salah out of the team was undoubtedly the right decision. However, with only Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz in attack, the Reds were very much struggling to get up the pitch and have any kind of threat.

That will need to change against PSG next midweek and Salah will presumably come back into the fray. Beyond him, there are not many options out there for Slot to change things.
