Liverpool team sheet confusion as Reds star left off squad list for Brighton game

Liverpool has sparked confusion ahead of its game with Brighton after backup goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was left off the official team sheet at Anfield.

All eyes were on the team news announcement on Saturday after Mohamed Salah was recalled to the squad after his outburst at Leeds last weekend which saw him miss the midweek trip to Milan.

Salah was only named among the nine substitutes on social media, alongside Alexander Isak, as Liverpool looks to get a much-needed win in the Premier League. One of the less notable inclusions on the bench was third-choice stopper Woodman, alongside Giorgi Mamardashvili, with Liverpool forced to include two goalkeepers as substitutes due to its lengthy injury list.

But on the official team sheet, that was handed to Liverpool.com and other publications at Anfield, Woodman's name was nowhere to be seen with Liverpool only having eight subs.

Of course, it is highly unlikely he would be needed unless Liverpool suffers the most ridiculous injury situation of all time but his absence did spark confusion.

Young midfielder Trey Nyoni was pictured arriving, with his shirt also seen hanging up at Anfield but he is not involved either.

Slot explained his decision to recall Salah and offered an update on Isak amid fresh injury concerns about the Swedish striker.

Asked if he was happy about the situation, Slot said: “Yes, of course, otherwise I would have done [it] probably differently. He’s back in the squad and on the bench today.”

He confirmed Isak had a 'minor' knock and is ready to be called upon from the bench, should he be needed.

“He got a knock in both games and games come quite fast,” Slot explained.

“There’s also not so much to choose from, so it’s also nice to have someone off the bench who can impact the game. I have a few others who can do that as well.”
