Liverpool team vs AC Milan predicted as Florian Wirtz in amid Luis Diaz decision

8 hours ago 42

Liverpool returns to action today in its third pre-season friendly of the summer, where fans could get their first proper glimpse of record signing Florian Wirtz.

So far, Arne Slot's men have comfortably beaten two Championship opponents, first winning at Preston North End and then hammering Stoke City behind closed doors. But this game, played in Hong Kong, should be another level of challenge as preparations for the new campaign ramp up.

This week has seen the Liverpool players undertake double sessions in Asia. And on Thursday, they met up with the latest addition to the team, Hugo Ekitike, who could possibly make his first appearance in a Reds shirt here.

Who is likely to be involved? Alisson Becker could make his first appearance of the summer, but Alexis Mac Allister is still working his way back from injury.

As far as we know, the rest of the players who are on tour could feature. Young duo Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha, for instance, who have both been impressing in training sessions, should get another go to show what they are capable of.

With only three senior center-back options and the same number of players available to choose at left-back, Andy Robertson might need to fill in centrally again.

And it will be interesting to note where the likes of Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai are deployed. The former can play as a number 10 or a false nine, while the latter was put in at right-back against Stoke as an experiment.

A possible starting team could look something like: Alisson in goal, with a back four of Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk (also making his first appearance of the summer), and Milos Kerkez.

Ryan Gravenberch and Szoboszlai could be joined in midfield by Wirtz, with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo in attack. Federico Chiesa was up front against Preston but isn't on the tour.

Other options across the team who should play a part include Giorgi Mamardashvili. Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas will all get a chance to get minutes under their belts too.

Curtis Jones has looked sharp this summer and he is another midfield option, alongside Wataru Endo. Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliott are both likely to move on before the transfer window closes, but the pair are with the Reds for time being too.

Luis Diaz, currently being courted by Bayern Munich, could play here either on the left or through the middle — while Ben Doak is an option as well. And Ekitike, potentially, could get some minutes after taking part in his first training session with the team yesterday.

With plenty of new faces, there will be lots to look out for at Kai Tak Sports Park.
