Liverpool has named a strong but rotated starting XI to take on Brighton in the FA Cup, with the competition providing a chance to win some silverware for Arne Slot in a difficult season.

Alisson Becker is in goal, even though Giorgi Mamardashvili started in the previous round against Barnsley, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Milos Kerkez making up the back four. Joe Gomez, who is on the bench, has been sidelined through injury lately but played 30 minutes off the bench in the midweek victory at Sunderland.

Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa make up the rest of the starting team, with Ryan Gravenberch, Rio Ngumoha and Hugo Ekitike among those who could make an impact from the bench.

"Obviously we want to have the best cup run possible and we all have to be ready for that," Gomez told the Reds' official website in the build-up to the game.

"Domestically, we've not had the easiest of seasons and I think this is a good chance for us to try to have a successful campaign.

"The FA Cup is such a historic trophy and I think trying to go as far as we can is obviously going to be the aim. Hopefully we can get the win."

Wataru Endo is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines with the injury that he sustained at Sunderland midweek. He has joined the likes of Alexander Isak and Conor Bradley on the treatment table.

"I'm gutted for Wata," Gomez continued. "He's such a treasured part of this squad and we appreciate him so much. Who he is as a person and how he plays, I think that showed in him trying to carry on.

"I think we all know that it's such a frustrating part of the game and we know how hard he'll work to come back stronger. Hopefully he comes back as soon as possible and has a chance to go to the World Cup."

"Like I say, after the disappointment of the City game, it was important that we bounced back as quickly as we could, but now the task is to build on a good away win and try to find that consistency I have been talking about," Van Dijk writes in the matchday program.

"The FA Cup is a competition that means a lot to us all, and we want to progress as far as we possibly can in it this season.

"We know, however, that we are facing a very tough opponent in Brighton & Hove Albion this evening, and we are going to need all of your support once more as we look to go again and get the win."
