Liverpool team vs PSG confirmed as Mohamed Salah benched and Jeremie Frimpong decision made

Liverpool has confirmed its starting XI to take on PSG in the Champions League, with Arne Slot making big decisions on Mohamed Salah and Jeremie Frimpong at the Parc des Princes

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has taken Mohamed Salah out of his starting XI to take on PSG in the Champions League, with Jeremie Frimpong coming into the side.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is in goal again, with Alisson Becker still sidelined through injury. Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Milos Kerkez also start, as they did against Manchester City in the FA Cup last time out, with some suggestions that the Reds could be deploying a back five.

Alexis Mac Allister returns in midfield, alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai. Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz complete the Liverpool line-up with Salah, the returning Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa among the options to come off the bench.

"Sometimes in a game of football, you want to do things in a certain way but you're not able to for various reasons," Slot said on Tuesday ahead of his team looking to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

"But one of them can definitely be conceding goals when you think you're playing well and in the game. Usually in football, moments that hurt you most are just before half-time and just after.

"So, you go in at half-time, for large spells of the game feeling you went toe-to-toe with City but then you are 2-0 down. Then immediately after half-time you concede the 3-0.

"Then five minutes in between — and we had two big chances from Mo [Salah], by the way — where it was too open, players were struggling.

"The good thing for us was that after the 4-0, Manchester City seemed to be OK with the 4-0 and we had the ball and constant ball possession but were not able to create that much anymore.

"I didn't see players giving up in that part of the game, but I think it is also good from captain that he has a strong and firm reaction after a game like that.

"Hopefully it's not only immediately after the game, but we can — as a team — show a strong and firm reaction tomorrow evening.

"We were able to do very well for 35 minutes [last Saturday], but I can tell you the 20 minutes we had at Manchester City, if we have them tomorrow evening here, we will again concede four goals because these players over here know how to act if we have a 20 minutes of that.

"So, it's a challenge for us to be from the first until the last second at the level we were in the first 35 minutes.

"If not, it is going to be a really hard night again, like it was last year where we completely deserved to lose 4-0 over here or maybe more. But that's the beauty of football — in the 85th minute we scored a goal where it was almost like, 'This was robbery!'"
