Liverpool terminates loan deal amid injury crisis as transfer plans emerge

Liverpool has confirmed that academy talent Lewis Koumas has returned to the club following his loan stint at Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old made 25 appearances for Blues and scored in the 3-2 win over Coventry City earlier this month, but the decision has been taken for him to be recalled in the final week of the January window.

Despite the ongoing injury issues at Liverpool, and lack of squad depth at The youngster is not expected to remain at Liverpool for the rest of the month, with the club assessing what is best for this next steps.

It's understood Koumas is keen to secure regular game time as he looks to secure his place in the Wales squad ahead of a possible World Cup this summer, should Craig Bellamy's side progress through the play-offs.

Koumas has been linked with a move elsewhere this month, with the Liverpool Echo reporting he could join Hull City on loan.

The attacker, who has nine Wales caps, previously impressed on loan at Stoke City last season.

Koumas scored on his only senior Liverpool appearance, which came in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Southampton in February 2024.
