Chris Waddle has tipped Liverpool to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in the summer, with the Reds having been previously interested in the England international.

In 2024, Liverpool agreed a deal in principle to sign Gordon when Newcastle was in need of money to free up PSR space. Instead, though, it ended up selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton to raise funds, with Gordon penning a new contract a few months later.

Since then, the England ace has been sporadically linked with an exit. Arsenal was linked last summer and this season, Gordon has scored 17 goals in all competitions, including hitting double figures in the Champions League.

"For Gordon, I hope he's different to Alexander Isak, which was a bit embarrassing," Waddle told Bet Victor. "I thought it was out of order, personally.

"I think if you want to leave a football club, and listen, there's talk of Gordon being a Liverpool fan, and he's from, obviously, Merseyside, I think, so it all sets up for him to look to think eventually he's going to go to Liverpool.

"He's playing great football at Newcastle. I think the world of him, the manager does, I'm sure.

"I know for players certain things cross their mind and he could be looking at that and thinking about a chance of winning the league or the Champions League. Because let's be honest, Newcastle are not going to win the league."

This summer, Liverpool could do with adding some more pace in wide areas. Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah have both struggled for consistency and have only netted 18 goals between them.

Gordon, who is capable of playing on both flanks and also as a number 10 or a false nine, would also tick the homegrown box, which is something the Reds will have to consider too.

"I'm not sure there's a lot I can do about that," Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said in February when Gordon was linked with a summer move to Arsenal. "I've not seen the story, so it's news to me.

"But we're mid-season, we're in the middle of some of the biggest games of his career and who knows what's going to happen internationally with him in the summer as well?

"He's not got time to look left or right, he's got to be fully focused on straight ahead and the next game and trying to be as good as he can be."

Liverpool.com says: Gordon has had another good season and it would be logical for him to be considering making another move to join a club capable of winning the biggest trophies. After Isak, though, Newcastle won't want it to be Liverpool.
