Liverpool told 'title race is over' if Alexander Isak transfer is completed

Liverpool's attacking prowess would be unstoppable if it secures the services of Alexander Isak before the summer transfer window shuts, according to former England star Stuart Pearce.

The Reds are keeping a keen eye on developments as rumors swirl about the striker's potential exit from Newcastle. Reports surfaced that Isak had expressed a desire to leave the Magpies after he was left behind to nurse a thigh injury while his teammates jetted off to Asia for their preseason tour.

Since then, there's been constant chatter about his possible move to the reigning Premier League champion. Last term saw Arne Slot's squad clinch the title with ease, with Mohamed Salah finishing as the league's top scorer on 29 goals, and Isak not far behind after netting 23 for Newcastle.

Pearce is convinced that pairing the two in Liverpool's line-up would make the team invincible in its quest to retain the title.

"The title is over if Liverpool get Isak, yes. They've ended up investing in what they've got and bring him and his goals through the door to add to Salah would be incredible," Pearce said, as quoted by the Liverpool ECHO.

Should Isak join, it would mark yet another significant change in Liverpool's forward line during the summer of 2025.

Hugo Ekitike has also been snapped up from Eintracht Frankfurt, while Luis Diaz has just departed for Bayern Munich. The rumor mill suggests there might be more exits on the horizon, with Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa heavily rumored to be on their way out.

Pearce has even hinted that Liverpool's Uruguayan frontman could fill the void left by Isak at St. James' Park if the Swedish striker makes the leap to Anfield.

"I think if a deal does get hashed with Newcastle. I think maybe Nunez going in the opposite direction to Newcastle might be the way that make Newcastle better off," said Pearce.

"In my opinion, Nunez might be the one full of energy. He might just be the one that the new Newcastle fans take to. He creates chances for himself, for sure. He's just been a little bit wasteful over time.

"If he gets that right, all of a sudden he'll be a very effective replacement for Isak. So if I was Newcastle, I would say, 'Look, if at the end of the day we're going to lose Isak, send Nunez to us and then we'll have a bash with him.'

"You've played at Newcastle, they just love their own players up there, especially the forwards, don't they? You know, I can see, you've seen Nunez, he goes in, he misses a chance, he misses another one, but he keeps going.

"He's unshakable in that respect. And you think that's a great trait to have as a striker. It's the ones that pull their neck in and don't get into missing chances. So I think I could see him playing for Newcastle, I really could, if they needed a replacement."

With one month left in the summer transfer window, there's still time for this drama to unfold. Liverpool is set to kick off its season on Sunday, August 10, facing Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, before launching its Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15.
