Liverpool transfer confirmed by MLS club as official statement released

Liverpool goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek has joined the MLS side FC Cincinnati, initially on loan with an option to purchase the 22-year-old permanently at the end of the season

Major League Soccer (MLS) team FC Cincinnati has confirmed the signing of the Liverpool goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek, initially on loan with an option to purchase the shot-stopper.

Mrozek joins the Orange and Blue on loan for the 2026 MLS season. He will occupy an international roster slot and could make the switch permanently when the campaign comes to an end.

Now 22, Mrozek joined Liverpool's academy in August 2020 from FC Wroclaw. He made 60 appearances in all competitions for the Reds at U18, U19 and U21 levels. He has featured six times on the bench for the first team.

The Polish goalkeeper penned his first professional contract at Anfield in July 2021 after impressing in his first year at the club.

Mrozek, who has won caps at U15 and U16 level for his country, enjoyed an excellent 2023-24 with the U21s, and was in several senior matchday squads.

However, others have since overtaken him in the pecking order. Mrozek spent the second half of 2024 with the Swedish top-flight club IF Brommapojkarna.

And in February 2025, he joined National League side Forest Green Rovers in another loan spell until the end of the season.

"Fabian is a talented young goalkeeper," Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati general manager, said.

"He will add quality and depth to our goalkeeping group and we look forward to his development under Paul Rogers. We’d like to welcome him to Cincinnati."

Last summer, Liverpool brought in 20-year-old Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia for a fee understood to be up to around $2.0 million (£1.5 million). He joined fellow goalkeepers Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman in making the move to Anfield.

Pecsi, a Hungarian talent who was nominated for the Golden Ball award, impressed on his first appearance at senior level when he played against Athletic Club in a friendly.

He made a big save just minutes after coming off the bench, charging out quickly to block Gorka Guruzeta's effort after the Athletic striker broke free.

He didn't manage to hold onto his clean sheet, but he did enough to suggest Liverpool fans could have another exciting goalkeeper on their hands.
