After crashing out of the Champions League on Tuesday, Liverpool will end the season trophyless, with attention for the remainder of the campaign turning toward Premier League ambitions.
The Reds have disappointed this term, following a promising summer spend of $600 million that suggested the roster could repeat the feat of winning the league, and perhaps then some.
Instead, the best the fans and players can hope for is a top-five finish in the Premier League and a return to the Champions League for next season, before delving back into the summer transfer market. There, the club is expected to rebuild once again, finding the missing pieces that made this season such a disaster, while avoiding a repeat of those mistakes.

With that said, here is Liverpool.com's verdict on the latest Liverpool transfer links.
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)
Liverpool has previously been linked with a move for Anthony Gordon, with the former Everton man impressing for both Newcastle United and England in the past year.
With Slot on the lookout for more options to bolster his forward line, GiveMeSport claims that the Reds "remain interested" in the winger, ahead of what could be an important summer for his future.
That's because an exit could be on the cards, with Fabrizio Romano explaining on his YouTube channel that the Magpies may be open to a sale because of their financial position.
He revealed: "There is a possibility Newcastle sell one or two top players in the summer transfer window. It's about Financial Fair Play, it's about the cost of the squad, so they have to consider exits."
"So Anthony Gordon has chances to leave Newcastle in the summer transfer window... There are several clubs interested. I would not underestimate Premier League clubs in this race for Anthony Gordon, in case there is a door open to his exit in the summer, but Bayern [Munich] are looking at wingers in the market.
"That's not new. We know Yan Diomande and now there are links with Anthony Gordon. There will be more, for sure, because Bayern are looking at wingers, but at the moment, what I'm told is that it's still early, with several clubs involved in the first round of discussions around Anthony Gordon."
Liverpool.com says: The rumors surrounding Anthony Gordon's future at Newcastle appear to be ramping up, especially in relation to Bayern Munich, but it's no surprise to see Liverpool linked as well.
The Reds clearly need to add more firepower to the front line, especially with pace, but there can be elements of frustration with the winger and his decisions around the box.
Add to that the likely cost of any deal, and it could prove to be an expensive one for a player who would likely compete with Rio Ngumoha on the left.
Morten Hjulmand (Sporting CP)

Liverpool has joined Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand this summer to help bolster the central ranks, according to Caught Offside.
The 26-year-old has impressed in Portugal, having become the Sporting captain, and his performances have seemingly caught the eye of the Premier League clubs.
The report claims that a release clause worth $94.3million in his deal could be triggered this summer, but with two years remaining on his contract, it remains to be seen what the clubs will do.
Liverpool.com says: The number six role is one that Liverpool needs to sort out, as it is a role that helps dictate the tempo of the match with control both on and off the ball.
While that position is needed, Hjulmand's release clause comes in on the more expensive side for someone who has largely experienced Serie A and Liga Portugal football.
Liverpool may be better off looking at cheaper options in the market to help bolster their ranks, or if they do splash out, go for someone with Premier League experience who can fit in immediately.
